With harvest time approaching, producers are focused on ensuring grain quality
The 2024/25 soybean harvest in Paraná, scheduled to begin in February, is set to achieve historic figures. Production is estimated to exceed 22 million tons, a 20% increase compared to the 18.56 million tons harvested in the previous season, according to the Department of Rural Economy (Deral) of the Paraná Department of Agriculture and Supply (Seab).
With a planted area of 5.776 million hectares, which is practically stable compared to the previous cycle (5.784 million hectares), planting was carried out smoothly, facing only minor and localized issues that are not expected to affect the final results.
Weather conditions, in general, have been favorable for crop development. Although some regions experienced water deficits at the beginning of planting, the recovery of rainfall brought relief and created ideal conditions for plant growth. The current scenario is promising, and producers are optimistic about meeting productivity expectations.
With the harvest approaching, producers are focused on ensuring grain quality. Accessible technologies, such as moisture meters, have been widely used to monitor grain quality before harvest. “This allows producers to mitigate climate risks, ensuring predictability and security during harvesting,” highlights agricultural engineer Roney Smolareck from Loc Solution, the company that owns the Motomco brand of grain moisture meters.
Recently, Loc Solution completed the update of moisture meters at the Cascavel Laboratory (LACAS), which is part of the Brazilian Network of Legal Metrology and Quality (INMETRO). “With the support of laboratory supervisor Celso Antônio Claser, we strengthened the precision and reliability of processes in the region,” says Smolareck.
Inaugurated in 2002, LACAS plays an essential role in providing technical support to producers, ensuring the accuracy of equipment used on farms, warehouses, and agricultural cooperatives.
Innovations in Storage Solutions
In the storage sector, Motomco introduced a flow meter for control and traceability in grain management. The equipment can be installed at various strategic points in the storage facility, such as at the hopper, at the silo entrance, and during the loading of trucks. This innovation allows for more effective monitoring at all stages of storage.
“With the forecast of a bountiful harvest and the advancement of technologies in the field, we are confident in a very positive season,” adds Smolareck.
National Production on the Rise
At the national level, the soybean harvest is heading for a record result, with an estimated 166 million tons, according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). This performance reinforces Brazil’s leadership as the world’s largest producer and exporter of soybeans.
