Updating Motomco moisture meters ensures grain quality in Mato Grosso

Loc Solution updated the Motomco moisture meters used by IPEM in Mato Grosso to guarantee more reliable measurements during soybean and corn harvests.

Moisture represents a decisive factor in the grain production chain, having a significant impact, especially in regions like Mato Grosso, a giant in soybean and corn production in Brazil’s national scenario. Recently, Motomco brand grain moisture meters used by the Mato Grosso Institute of Weights and Measures (IPEM) underwent an update to ensure greater reliability in grain handling during the harvest season. This initiative aims to keep the equipment in optimal condition, providing more accurate results and ensuring grain quality.

This work was carried out by Loc Solution, the company that owns the Motomco brand of grain moisture meters. It consists of replacing old models with recent ones, upgrading components, and installing new software. “It is essential to ensure that the equipment is always updated, calibrated, providing reliable measurements, and thus preserving the quality of the grains at all stages of the production process,” says Roney Smolareck, an agronomist at Loc Solution.

According to Carlos Alberto Lopes Regis, president of IPEM in Mato Grosso, the device update occurs twice a year, before the main harvests of the region — in December, before the soybean harvest, and in June, ahead of the corn harvest. Recently, four Motomco devices were updated at the institute: a bench-top device for the Grain Moisture Meter Verification Laboratory in Cuiabá and three semi-automatic devices used by field inspectors to check the equipment and perform follow-up inspections.

“The device needs to comply with Ordinance No. 47, dated February 2022, to ensure that moisture measurement is as accurate as possible, as this variable can directly influence grain quality during harvesting, transportation, and storage,” explains Regis. He also emphasizes that moisture control is fundamental not only for storing grains under ideal conditions but also for fair pricing in the market. “Knowing the moisture level facilitates the transshipment process, marketing, and pricing,” he adds.

Roney Smolareck reinforces Loc Solution’s commitment to ensuring the accuracy of the meters. “Our devices undergo rigorous annual verifications to ensure that both producers and grain buyers have equipment that provides extremely accurate readings,” says Smolareck.

He emphasizes that Motomco’s moisture meters are designed to accommodate a wide variety of grains, covering crops like soybeans, corn, wheat, beans, and more. “Throughout the year, we perform updates on devices for various clients, ensuring that the commercialization of harvests occurs fairly and accurately.”

Constant equipment updates are essential to ensure transparency in commercial transactions and fair valuation of agricultural production, contributing to food security and the region’s economic development.
