Partnership Between Motomco and UEM Strengthens Practical Training in Agricultural Engineering

Company Donates Equipment to University for Grain Quality Control

Collaborations between companies and educational institutions can have a significant positive impact on scientific development and the productive sector. A recent example of such synergy took place at the Department of Agricultural Engineering (DEA) of the Regional Campus of Arenito (CAR) at the State University of Maringá (UEM) in Cidade Gaúcha. Loc Solution, the company behind the Motomco brand of grain moisture meters, based in Curitiba (PR), donated equipment designed for grain quality control during storage.

The donated equipment includes a grain moisture meter, a sample divider, kits for determining hectoliter weight, classification sieves, and a bulk product sampler. These tools are critical for ensuring grain quality from harvest to storage.

Professor and agronomist Rafael de Almeida Schiavon, from the DEA, highlighted the importance of this initiative for the Agricultural Engineering program. He noted that around 80% of UEM graduates enter the job market, particularly in the post-harvest sector, which is currently expanding. According to him, the new equipment will enhance hands-on training, aligning students’ education with real market demands.

“These tools are essential for strengthening the teaching and learning process, contributing to the development of highly qualified professionals, who are increasingly sought after by the industry,” said Schiavon.

Roney Smolareck, agronomist at Loc Solution/Motomco, who oversaw the delivery of the equipment, emphasized that the donation is a way for the company to give back to society and support the training of future professionals. “By supporting institutions like UEM, we are helping to prepare professionals who will drive the advancement of agriculture in Brazil,” said Smolareck.

The delivery event also featured a lecture by Smolareck on grain quality and the proper use of the new equipment, providing students with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge.

The event was attended by Professor Schiavon, Roney Smolareck, Deputy Director of the Center for Agricultural Sciences (CCA) Ferenc István Bankuti, CAR Director Edmilson Cesar Bortoletto, and Regional Campus Advisor Altair Bertonha.
