Brazil is expected to have a historic harvest, with a forecast of 325.7 million tons, but ensuring grain quality and market value is essential.
A record harvest, like the one projected for this year (2024/25), demands rigorous monitoring to guarantee grain quality. The National Supply Company (Conab) estimates a production of 325.7 million tons—a 9.4% increase compared to the previous season. Given this volume, ensuring product quality becomes even more strategic.
This is where a key ally of the agricultural sector comes into play: the grain moisture meter. After all, controlling moisture levels is essential to prevent losses, preserve quality, and ensure that every harvested ton reaches its destination at maximum market value.
According to Conab, the largest production increases are seen in:
✅ Soybeans: +18.3 million tons
✅ Corn: +6.3 million tons
✅ Rice: +1.2 million tons
✅ Beans: +104.9 thousand tons
The soybean production estimate is 166 million tons, a 12.4% increase compared to the previous season. Corn is expected to reach 122 million tons, up 5.5%. With planting almost completed, Conab projects rice production at 11.8 million tons, an 11.4% increase from last season. Initial forecasts also indicate 9.1 million tons of wheat production for winter crops.
Precision Technology: A Key Tool for High Productivity
Such high productivity requires special care and presents challenges in controlling moisture, grain health, and storage conditions. This makes precise technology, such as grain moisture meters and proper ventilation systems, essential.
Grain moisture meters are indispensable tools for farmers, cooperatives, and grain traders, as they measure the amount of water present in grains—a critical factor that influences weight and, ultimately, the commercial value of the crop.
For this reason, knowing the moisture content at every stage of production—from harvest to drying, storage, trading, and processing—is crucial for ensuring product quality and safety.
Regulation and Transparency in Grain Transactions
“Moisture is one of the main factors affecting grain pricing in commercial transactions. An uncalibrated device can lead to significant financial losses, considering the volume involved in these operations,” explains Roney Smolareck, agronomist and manager at Loc Solution, a company that sells and leases Motomco grain moisture meters.
Since 2013, with the publication of Inmetro’s Ordinance 402, the sector has benefited from greater transparency in grain transactions.
“In addition to increasing confidence in moisture measurements, the regulation establishes minimum requirements for moisture meters used in commercial transactions,” highlights Fernanda Rodrigues da Silva, Customer Relationship Manager at Motomco.
